The Sentinel Series

Individually crafted and numbered in the Canyon Crest workshop.

The Sentinel is the signature artifact of Canyon Crest Woodworks — a sculptural walnut object designed to carry stories.

Each piece combines engraved imagery, symbolic materials, and traditional woodworking to represent the culture of a specific community or tradition. Some Sentinels begin as private commissions, while others emerge as concept pieces within the ongoing Sentinel Series.

The pieces shown here represent past works and conceptual directions for the Sentinel Series. They are examples rather than fixed designs. Many Sentinels begin with a client’s own image, story, or symbol and evolve through a collaborative design process in the workshop.

Sentinel designs are available both as functional artifacts and sculptural medallions.

Who Sentinels Are Created For

Sentinels have been commissioned to represent many traditions, including:

• law enforcement units
• veteran organizations
• motorcycle clubs
• fishing lodges
• automotive culture
• private collectors

Each piece becomes a symbolic object tied to the identity of a specific group or story.

How They Are Made

Each Sentinel begins as a solid walnut form and is shaped, engraved, and finished in the Canyon Crest workshop in Mission Viejo, California.

Engravings are developed using laser engraving and hand-finished detailing to create high-contrast artwork in wood and slate.

Every piece is crafted individually rather than produced in large batches.

Sentinel Themes & Design Directions

The Sentinel Series has evolved through a number of recurring themes inspired by the communities that commission them.

Sentinel Harbor

Maritime and first-responder heritage

Inspired by harbor patrols, coastal watch stations, and maritime traditions. Past pieces have incorporated law-enforcement insignia, nautical symbols, and coastal imagery.

Sentinel Wild

Fishing and outdoor culture

Often engraved in a vintage natural-history illustration style. Many commissions in this theme begin with a personal photograph from a fishing trip or outdoor expedition.

Sentinel Road

Southern California mechanical culture

Inspired by hot-rod builders, custom car clubs, and the engineering heritage of the American road. Designs frequently incorporate automotive symbolism and club identity.

Sentinel Frontier

Frontier and shooting culture

Pieces reflecting the traditions of shooting clubs, long-range marksmen, and the broader mythology of the American frontier.

Sentinel Brotherhood

Veterans and first responders

Artifacts commissioned by veteran organizations, motorcycle clubs, and first-responder units, often incorporating insignia, challenge coins, and commemorative imagery.

Commission a Sentinel

Custom Sentinel commissions are available for organizations, clubs, and collectors who wish to create a piece representing their own story, culture, or tradition.

Many commissions begin with a photograph, insignia, or personal symbol that becomes the foundation for the final design.
